Southwest Virginia Community Health Systems
Southwestern Virginia"Congressman Rick Boucher... said, 'Southwest Virginia Community Health Systems will update its clinic in Saltville with a new sprinkler system, electrical service entrance, and a new elevator to improve the safety of the clinic facility. Additionally, the clinic will replace its old oil furnace and boiler with a modern heating and cooling system and replace its windows with insulated windows. These improvements will help the clinic cut its energy costs.' In fact, said Howard Chapman, executive director of SVCHS, those building improvements will be made on the former hospital that now serves as the SVCHS corporate office and will house a new sliding-fee dental clinic when it opens next year. 'We have $239,000 to go toward the T.K. McKee Hospital building for an elevator, sprinkler, new electrical service entrance, replace the oil furnace and replace windows with more energy-efficient windows,' Chapman said. 'These metal framed windows make it almost impossible to insulate the building against the elements.' On the medical side, the center will purchase new x-ray equipment to replace older models Boucher said are currently not in operation. 'We have two old x-ray units that are in excess of 30 years old,' Chapman said. 'We’re going to digital.' That technology will allow the medical center to link to a radiologist’s office for consultations while the patient is in the building, eliminating the need to deliver films and wait several days for a reading and report, Chapman said." -- SWVA Today, July 7, 2009
