The Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas

Pittsburg, Kansas

The Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas is using stimulus funds to build a new site in Cherokee County-- the poorest county in the state.  The new site will be co-located with the community mental health center.  The balance of the funds will be used to renovate the main facility in Pittsburg and add new exam rooms for clinicians.  The health center provides comprehensive dental services to more than 1,000 patients a month. In 2008, it screened more than 17,000 children in six counties for dental decay with one in three requiring followup treatment.  The health center is a medical, dental and mental health home to more than 16,000 residents the highest poverty rate and the poorest health indicators.
