Statement of Tom Van Coverden On the House of Representatives’ Approval of Legislation to Renew the State’s Children’s Health Insurance Program

 

 

House lawmakers once again made an important commitment to strengthen and expand health care to our nation’s low income and uninsured children by approving bipartisan legislation yesterday to reauthorize the state Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). America’s Health Centers support this bipartisan agreement, and believe that it again proves that reducing the number of uninsured children, and improving the health and well-being of children in this country, are not and should not be partisan notions.

ALEXANDRIA, VA – First Focus, in conjunction with the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) has released a letter urging President Bush to reconsider his threats to veto the renewal of the highly successful State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). The letter is signed by more than 300 national, state, and local organizations throughout the country, including groups representing children, seniors, mayors, and unions.
