Power Through Association
As the voice for America’s medically underserved and uninsured population, NACHC is the only national health care organization dedicated exclusively to providing community-based health care organizations with strong advocacy, effective training, in-depth technical assistance, timely information and new resource opportunities. Currently, NACHC represents the program and policy interests of more than 1,000 community-based health care organizations in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, the US Virgin Islands, and Guam. Given the diverse access issues medically underserved and uninsured people face – including chronic illness, cultural and linguistical differences, geographical barriers, and homelessness – community health centers must be empowered with the most proven and effective resources available to properly care for the communities they serve. For over 30 years, health care organizations have turned to NACHC to obtain those resources. The following tangible results represent just some of the achievements that NACHC advocacy has produced in recent years:
- Increased Congressional funding support of health center programs
- Passage of legislation which guarantees qualified health centers a minimum per visit payment rate for Medicaid coverage
- Permanent medical malpractice protection for qualified health centers
- Expanded access to Community Health Centers (REACH) Initiative to serve in excess of 20 million patients by 2006
- Federal loan guarantee program – opening new sources of capital to modernize facilities and develop new managed health care plans and networks
- Legislative reauthorizations providing health centers a stronger measure of operation stability and flexibility
- Increased Congressional support for the National Health Service Corp., Ryan White Aids program and the Community Access program
- Millions of dollars worth of free prescription drugs to health center patients through the Pfizer Sharing the Care Pharmaceuticals Program
- Support for the development of community-based integrated health delivery services networks through the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Program
