Health Centers Support Expanded Insurance Coverage,
Inclusion in Federal Employees Health Benefits Program

As the number of people without medical insurance rises, health centers are absorbing a greater share of that expanding care need.

Nationwide, more than 47 million people lack health insurance, up 13% in the last five years. At the same time, health centers have seen a 45% increase in the number of patients without health insurance.

Health centers wrestle daily with the challenge of providing quality primary care to 16 million patients, 6 million of whom lack health insurance. Absorbing those care costs affects the ability of health centers to provide insurance for their own employees.

For that reason, the NACHC supports:

• Expanded public and private support for access to health insurance and care.
• Passage of the “Health Partnership Act” (S.325/H.R.506), which would give states greater flexibility to expand coverage and access through more creative use of technical and financial resources.
• Legislation to help health centers cut their own health insurance costs by participating in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program.
