NACHC Partners Help Members Fill Key Positions
Most health centers are seldom fortunate enough to find all the management and front-line staffing they need in their own back yards. That is why the National Association of Community Health Centers has enlisted the help of several firms to help members with:
• Retired military clinical staffing
• Permanent clinical staffing
• Temporary clinical staffing
• Executive search
RETIRED MILITARY CLINICIANS:
The Uniformed Services Health Professional Placement (USHPP) is the only contingency placement firm (in other words, a fee is due only on hire) that works exclusively with military health care professionals seeking employment in their transition from the military into civilian practice. USHPP also presents military clinicians who are not retiring, but who have completed their military commitments. The military professionals seeking civilian employment include physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. They are experienced and seasoned clinicians and teachers, with proven track records. Most physicians and dentists have at least 4 years of post-residency or post-fellowship practice experience. Each understands the concept of team medicine. They have trained at and staffed the finest U.S. military medical facilities in the United States and across the globe. These clinicians and leaders have a valuable work ethic. Under an agreement with NACHC, USHPP has agreed to provide discounted clinician referral services to NACHC members, although the service is available to all health centers.

TEMPORARY CLINICAL STAFFING:
The need for health care continues, even when doctors and nurses leave to pursue other opportunities. To continue delivering care, health centers often need to enlist temporary help.
Thanks to a relationship negotiated by the NACHC, members can address their clinical staffing needs through the services of AMN Healthcare, and AMN’s subsidiary, Staff Care.
Staff Care, which finds temporary placements for more than 7,500 physicians each year, provides NACHC members with temporary physician staffing.
AMN Healthcare provides temporary nurse staffing, on a contingent basis.
The relationship with NACHC lets AMN Healthcare and Staff Care offer their services at preferred prices.
Fees are not due until the temporary clinician begins billable work.

EXECUTIVE SEARCH:
Finding, interviewing, and hiring skilled, experienced executives is a huge and time-consuming challenge; however, the changing health care environment means that health centers must increase their efforts to recruit senior managers (CEOs, CFOs, COOs, etc.) who understand the mission of health centers and possess the needed management skills. NACHC has engaged the firms of Goodwin & Company, and Martin, Blanck & Associates, to help its members with that task.
Based in Washington, D.C., Tom Goodwin has more than 20 years of experience helping health centers and other non-profit groups find key executives. Dick Bohrer, who directed the Community Health Center Program for the U.S. Public Health Service, leads efforts at Martin, Blanck & Associates to ensure that any executive search is done with an understanding of health center operations and concentrates on people experienced with those operations.
Goodwin & Company is known for its competence at fitting the right executive to the demographic factors and specific problems of the hiring organization. It works to offer clients more than one choice of candidates, and will repeat the search process at no extra cost should a preferred candidate depart within a year of hire.
