Announcing our latest advocacy hero – the October National Community Health Advocate of the Month; Martha Zarate, Risk Manager for La Clinica de Familia in Las Cruces New Mexico. Taking the Health Center Week Petition on with fierce dedication,“Let’s be Winners” was her motto and the often repeated encouragement from Martha who recruited staff at all nine (9) of La Clinica’s sites to participate in the petition drive during their health fair for National Health Center week. But Martha’s hard work and commitment wasn’t over when the HCW whistle blew – Martha rallied the troops at the individual sites for weeks afterward. With a great bilingual poster provided by the NMPCA, Martha was able to marshal staff and patients to collecting nearly 600 petition signatures and countless new health center advocates, the highest number of petition signers in New Mexico! Always humble, Martha noted; “Staff did an excellent job-- even though it’s one more thing to add to busy people lives, everyone was really responsive…Sometimes we just need a cheerleader—that’s me.” From one cheering squad to another – please help us in congratulating our October National Community Health Advocate of the Month, Martha Zarate!
